The works of William Wordsworth, published by R. & R. Clarke and printed in the late 1800's no earlier than 1865.
This hardcover book of poems features the works of William Wordsworth an English Romantic poet who, with Samuel Taylor Coleridge, helped to launch the Romantic Age in English literature with their joint publication Lyrical Ballads.
In fair/poor condition with all pages accounted for, although some pages have come loose from the binding and the leather cover is split at the top of the cover showing the padding within. The leather of the spine is somewhat deteriorated, but still holds complete. Some rub marks and worn edges on the sheets. Gilt edges.
This book features a hand illustrated calligraphy and watercolour painting as this book was presented as a gift. The inscription reads:
Presented to
Miss Inns
By The Young Temperance Crusaders
As a mark of their regard and esteem
Nunhead [England]
March 1898
followed by three small lovely watercolour illustrations of local points of interest. The attention to detail with different colour inks, intricate lettering, and the addition of fancy curlicues, this piece shows just how highly the members of The Young Temperance Crusaders regarded Miss Inns
