This WWII military ‘housewife’ sewing kit was made in 1940 by the SS Holden Ltd, in Ottawa, Canada.
The khaki cotton drill roll-up sewing kit has three internal pockets and is stamped on the inside with 'S.S.HOLDEN LTD. 1940 OTTAWA. CANADA.'. There is a mark on the outside which is partly illegible, but I believe it should show a broad arrow. When rolled up it is secured with a length of khaki tape sewn to one end of the kit.
There are vintage sewing items in the kit and many appear to be original contents. These include: A small pair of scissors marked Germany, some linen thread of various colours wound around card, a large selection of various types of needles and pins in a piece of coarse grain fabric, two chunks of red wax
Condition: Very good. Slightly grubby, as to be expected from an item of this age
