This storage trunk made the trip to Japan from Canada and back again in the 1930's and has been with the original owner's descendants since then.
Wardrobe trunks were designed not only to get your clothes across the ocean, but to also act as a travel closet for the journey. This is the time before overseas air travel and the way people moved was via steamship with the trip to Japan taking three weeks to a month. This wardrobe trunk would act as your closet for the time you were travelling.
This trunk has suffered minor water damage, but for a utilitarian piece of its age, it is in very good condition.
Trunk comes with it's original hangers which hang on extendible rails which are kept secure by the end piece of the trunk which is on a hinge and raises up to allow for easy removal of garments from the trunk. Flat shoe compartment clips in to the trunk to save space and leave room for the length of clothing at the bottom of the hanging portion of the trunk. Drawers are in good condition and can slide in and out easily. Some of the shelf lining paper is a bit tattered but very much complete overall.
Trunk has no strong odours or mould issues, very faint musty smell but not overly bad.
A beautiful piece for display or just to use as a hallway bench or storage

Due to the nature of vintage items being used, we cannot guarantee that any item will be in perfect working condition. Oftentimes vintage items need a bit more creativity to operate than a brand new item and can have unique quirks like a stiff button, or wiggly latch. We do our best to thoroughly test and describe the condition of every item we sell.
Returns will be handled on a case by case basis, and partial refunds will not be given under any circumstances.
Returns must be shipped back at customer's expense.
