Vintage 1970s Imperial Tobacco "Prevent Fires" Tin Sign. Super fun collectible wall decor! Imperial Tobacco Canada Limited is a cigarette manufacturing company operating in Canada. It is a wholly owned subsidiary of British American Tobacco. It was created in 1908 and bought out the Canadian interests of the American Tobacco Company, which was a monopoly in the United States until it was reorganized in 1911. This 1970's public service sign was manufactured by Imperial Tobacco for indoor workplace environments and localized commercial properties, where a single stray spark or unextinguished cigarette could destroy raw materials or disrupt industry. Canadian tobacco firms routinely funded public safety signage during this period. This allowed them to advertise their corporate brand name in common workspaces while simultaneously trying to lower the risk of fires caused by their consumer products.
The sign has slight wear and the patina is apparent especially on bottom section. See photos for condition!
