Vintage Pinback Button for International Women's Year 1975.
The United Nations (UN) designated 1975 as International Women’s Year, organizing a world conference in Mexico City on the status of women. The conference established a set of goals for countries to attain over the next ten years in order to advance women’s rights around the world. This "WHY NOT" symbol was the primary logo of a $5 million federal campaign launched by Pierre Elliott Trudeau's Liberal government in Canada. The campaign aimed to highlight workplace discrimination and promote gender equality. The government distributed these buttons alongside informational flyers, pamphlets, and mobile information vans traveling across the provinces.
