This Victorian era silver plated dish is from Toronto's Grand Central Hotel. The hotel was originally called the "British Exchange Inn" when it was built in 1856, and was renamed The Grand Central Hotel in 1868.
Measures 2 3/4" square and is in very good condition with a bright finish and a little bit of tarnish patina. A few shallow scratches are visible when observed in the light on an angle, but none are very noticeable under normal conditions. Stamped on the back Toronto Silver Plate Co. a company founded in 1882 which dates this dish as being from between 1882 - 1905.
The Hotel was built on the southeast corner of King and Sherbourne streets, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The building was torn down in 2013 and the north and west facades were preserved as part of the new condominium development, examples of "facadism" in Toronto.
This little dish is a piece of Toronto's history and is an incredibly rare piece you're not likely to find again
