$9.94

1974 Istarske Brigade commemorative lapel/stick pin. The Istrian Brigades were part of the Yugoslav Partisans during World War II, famously fighting for the liberation of the Istrian peninsula and its unification with Yugoslavia. In the 1970s, socialist Yugoslavia frequently held celebrations at Spomenik memorial sites and issued such pins as souvenirs for attendees to show they had witnessed specific commemorative events. Yugoslavia was a Balkan country that existed from 1918 to 1992, uniting South Slavic peoples under two main iterations: the Kingdom of Yugoslavia (1918–1941) and the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (1945–1992). Founded on the vision of unity after World War I, it was a diverse nation spanning Bosnia-Herzegovina, Croatia, Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia, and Slovenia.
