Vintage Yugoslavian Museum of the Battle for the Wounded on the Neretva (Muzej bitke na Neretvi) lapel/stick pin (now located in Jablanica, Bosnia and Herzegovina). The museum commemorates the historic 1943 WWII Partisan operation. Located on the riverbank along the main Sarajevo-Mostar road, its central exhibits feature a destroyed railway bridge and a 1913 steam locomotive. The Battle of the Neretva (also known as Operation Weiss) was a major Axis offensive launched against the Yugoslav Partisans throughout occupied Yugoslavia during World War II. It was one of the most significant confrontations of World War II in Yugoslavia. The offensive took place in early 1943, between 20 January and mid-to-late March. Since its final stage took place on the Neretva River, the operation was known in Yugoslavia as the Battle of the Neretva (Bitka na Neretvi), or the Battle for the Wounded (Bitka za ranjenike).
Yugoslavia was a Balkan country that existed from 1918 to 1992, uniting South Slavic peoples under two main iterations: the Kingdom of Yugoslavia (1918–1941) and the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (1945–1992). Founded on the vision of unity after World War I, it was a diverse nation spanning Bosnia-Herzegovina, Croatia, Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia, and Slovenia.
