Vintage Sava Kovačević Naval Technical Overhaul Plant (Mornaričko-Tehnički Remontni Zavod) Yugoslavia lapel/stick pin. SAKO was a prominent military shipyard and armaments factory. The facility was located in Tivat, a town in Montenegro, previously part of SFR Yugoslavia. The factory was named after Sava Kovačević, a famous Yugoslav Partisan commander and National Hero of Yugoslavia from Montenegro. Along with maintaining and overhauling Yugoslav Navy submarines and ships, the factory manufactured military equipment. The three vertical projectile shapes on the pin represent the plant's munitions and defense production, such as the famously manufactured "SAKO-6" anti-hail rockets used across Yugoslavia.
Yugoslavia was a Balkan country that existed from 1918 to 1992, uniting South Slavic peoples under two main iterations: the Kingdom of Yugoslavia (1918–1941) and the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (1945–1992). Founded on the vision of unity after World War I, it was a diverse nation spanning Bosnia-Herzegovina, Croatia, Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia, and Slovenia.
