1970s Firestone Steel Belted Radial "721" Tire novelty advertising ashtray. In the mid-century, tire companies regularly distributed scaled-down, real rubber replica tire ashtrays to automotive dealerships, mechanic garages, and service stations. They were designed to sit on parts counters or waiting room desks as high-visibility promotional decor. The "721" radial tire was launched by Firestone in 1977 as a direct response to a massive safety crisis. Its predecessor, the ill-fated "Firestone 500," suffered widespread tread separation issues. The 721 was engineered and marketed as a far superior replacement. The piece is in good condition, see photos for condition.
