1950 McKesson & Robbins Tawn Ladies' Travel Kit, with the original vinyl case. McKesson & Robbins (now known simply as the McKesson Corporation) is one of the oldest and largest pharmaceutical companies in North America. The company was started in New York City in the 1830's by John McKesson and Charles Olcott as a small pharmaceutical import shop. By the mid-1850s, the company became one of the first wholesale houses to manufacture its own pills, tablets, and fluid extracts. They sent their products across the United States via covered wagons. Despite a company scandal in the mid 1930's, the company boomed after World War II, which is the period this kit is from. Today, they are ranked as the 9th largest company by revenue in the United States, distributing roughly one-third of all pharmaceutical products used in North America.
