Vintage Limoges Porcelain miniature jester shoe, made in France. Features burgundy glaze with bright gold gilt accents and trim. Limoges' gold highlights were typically applied by hand using 22-24-karat liquid gold paint, which was then fired in a kiln to fuse the precious metal directly to the white porcelain glaze. Founded in the late eighteenth-century, Limoges porcelain is a luxury hard-paste porcelain made in and around the city of Limoges, France. This piece is likely from the 1970s- 1980s, when Limoges increased in popularity as souvenirs and curio-cabinet pieces. Maker's mark on the bottom indicates the manufactory as F.M. Limoges (Porcelaine Artistique F.M.), a well-known mid-20th-century workshop that specialized in producing decorative giftware, miniature items, and porcelain trinket boxes.
