Pair of Vintage Detroit Plaza Hotel Cocktail Glasses

Sorry, this item has sold.

What a cool pair of Detroit Plaza Hotel cocktail glasses. They stand 7" and are 2 1/2" across. They are in amazing conditon and appear to have been in a collection and not hosting Tom Collins. There are no chips, cracks or major scratches, there are small production imperfections on the lips. The graphics on both are beautiful and complete, still vibrant and no signs of wear. They feature the (at the time) Detroit Plaza Hotels, which have now become famous in the car industry and the Detroit skyline. Read on for some of the history.
In 1977, managed by Western International Hotels,[14] the central hotel tower of the Renaissance Center opened as the Detroit Plaza Hotel. It became the world's tallest all-hotel skyscraper[8] surpassing its architectural twin, the Westin Peachtree Plaza Hotel in Atlanta. The hotel was later renamed The Westin Hotel Renaissance Center Detroit. In 1986, it was surpassed in height by The Westin Stamford in Singapore. Since, the Renaissance Center's central tower has held the distinction as the tallest all-hotel skyscraper in the Western Hemisphere.
The Renaissance Center (also known as the GM Renaissance Center and nicknamed the RenCen) is a group of seven connected skyscrapers in Downtown Detroit, Michigan, United States. The Renaissance Center complex is on the Detroit International Riverfront and is owned by General Motors as its world headquarters. The central tower, the Detroit Marriott at the Renaissance Center, is the third tallest all-hotel skyscraper in the Western Hemisphere.[8] It has been the tallest building in Michigan since it was erected in 1977.
